Nutrition for Optimal Health

Our food is our fuel; it's what makes us go and nutrition plays a huge role in our health. Eating foods that support the cells, tissues and organs will go a long way in making you feel great every day.

From sweet treats to savory dishes, when it comes to eating healthy, a few simple swaps or additions can improve what you put into your body. Not only will you be eating healthier, but you will feel more energetic since your body will be able to utilize the food more efficiently. The more you practice these habits, the less you will have to think about them. You certainly won't miss any of the unhealthier option after trying these simple healthy eating hacks.

Building Children's Immunity

As parents, we know how hard it is when our little ones are not feeling well or are experiencing discomfort (or when they don’t sleep well!). Especially during the cold and flu season, which officially lasts from September to May.  A weakened immune system makes one more vulnerable or more susceptible to colds, flu, and more serious illnesses. Thankfully, there are some simple things you can do so that we can all sleep better!

Essential Oils for Children's Immunity and More

Essential oils are very effective at supporting the immune system due to their anti viral, anti bacterial and anti fungal properties. Even Health Canada agrees with this, and has deemed certain essential oils to be Natural Health Products (see below). Besides having studied the aromatherapy course, I have used essential oils myself since 2004, and with both of my children since they were born; I can attest that they work (my kids are now 4 and 7 and neither has had a sick visit to the doctor). As well, from the positive experiences from those around me who use them (as well there are thousands of scientific studies). In this class you will learn:

  • What are essential oils.
  • Which essential oils have been reviewed by Health Canada and have received the Natural Health Products (NHP) approval.
    NHP approval means that Health Canada has reviewed the product and has determined that scientific evidence exists to substantiate that it can help restore, maintain, or improve health and it is recognized for its ability to relieve symptoms associated with common ailments: from colds/coughs to skin irritation/cuts/burns to joint/muscle pain to digestive issues, eczema/dermatitis etc.

Fermented Foods Introductory Class

Fermented foods such as sauerkraut and kombucha, have become popular for health reasons.  The fermentation of food has been used by humans throughout the world for thousands of years as a way to preserve foods, and that the health benefits go beyond their microorganisms.  The fermentation process enhances the nutritional quality of food by contributing beneficial compounds such as vitamins, and by increasing the bioavailability of minerals. Probiotics have a range of positive effects on health, including the improvement of various intestinal inflammatory conditions, positive impacts on the immune system and even weight loss, and can alter the composition of the gut microbiome. In this class you will learn the basics of fermented foods, and easy ferments that you can do at home to improve your gut health.

Three Homemade Probiotic Drinks: Crash Course

After brewing kefir and kombucha for two weeks I can now safely say the most difficult part is saying the names correctly ;) Seriously Erin, you couldn't have made things easier for me. You provided me with all the tools I needed to become an instant expert :) I was terrified of fermenting for fear of poisoning myself and the family and now I can't imagine any of us going a day without our daily dose of probiotic  goodness. Towards a Chemical Free Home

It took me awhile to come around, but I finally took Erin's recommendation for the non-toxic all-purpose cleaner. It was incredible. Best cleaner ever.  No need to scrub. Just a clean swipe and dirt and grime comes off. It even solved our ant problem - no more ants in the house!

Today's modern home is loaded with toxic and polluting substances designed to make life easier.  The cost of these commercial, chemical-based products can be high: long term health concerns for the family, and environmental pollution caused by their manufacture and disposal. In the US, for example, 1 in 3 people suffer from allergies, asthma, sinusitis or bronchitis (US National Center for Health Statistics).
